Canberra, Australian Capital Territory; Snowy Monaro Region, New South Wales
On Wednesday 10 February 2021, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Government House, Canberra, to Michelago, New South Wales.
On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Geoffrey Smith, Principal, visited the Michelago Public School.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled to Cooma. There, as guests, of Cr Peter Beer, Mayor, they met with Councillors of the Snowy Monaro Regional Council to discuss the impacts of the 2019/2020 summer bushfires and COVID-19.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Superintendent Jim Darrant, District Manager, Snowy Monaro Region, visited the Cooma Fire and Rescue Control Centre and met with local NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) brigade members.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, travelled to Berridale, where as guests of Mr Steve Knowles, Captain, they met with members and volunteers from the Berridale RFS and Avonside RFS brigades.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Cr Peter Beer, Mayor, travelled to Crackenback and attended a reception with members of the Snowy Monaro Council, volunteers and community representatives from across the region.
