On Thursday 27 July 2023, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), accompanied by Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, received Letters of Credence accrediting His Excellency Mr Hadera Abera Admassu as the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The Ambassador was accompanied by representatives of the Embassy of Ethiopia, including Mr Yalelet Ashenafi, Counsellor; Mr Aragie Sisay, Third Secretary; and Mrs Tiruwork Beyene, Administrative Officer.
Then, the Governor-General, accompanied by Mrs Hurley, received Letters of Credence accrediting His Excellency Mr Ahmad Sadeghi as the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Ambassador was accompanied by his spouse Mrs Shiva Sadeghi, and representatives of the Embassy of Iran, including Mr Mohammad Reza Heidarzadeh Naeini, Counsellor; and Mr Hassan Bigdeli, Counsellor.
Later, the Governor-General, accompanied by Mrs Hurley, received Letters of Credence accrediting His Excellency Mr Samuel Yao Kumah as the High Commissioner for the Republic of Ghana. The High Commissioner was accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Matilda Maqunyo Kumah, and representatives of the High Commission of Ghana, including Mrs Betty Osafo Mensah, Minister; Mr Joseph Okai, Minister; and Mr Stanley Famiah, Minister-Counsellor.
Afterwards, the Governor-General met with students from Brighton Grammar School, Victoria.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a lunch for newly accredited Heads of Mission. Guests included His Excellency Dr Ali Kraishan, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and his spouse Mrs Lubna Kraishan; His Excellency Mr Hadera Abera Admassu, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; Mr Yalelet Ashenafi, Counsellor; His Excellency Mr Ahmad Sadeghi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran and his spouse Mrs Shiva Sadeghi; His Excellency Mr Samuel Yao Kumah, High Commissioner for the Republic of Ghana and his spouse Mrs Matilda Maqunyo Kumah; Mr Rod Brazier, representing the Foreign Minister, and Deputy Secretary, Development and Multilateral Group; and Mr Ian McConville, Chief of Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Mr Paul Singer MVO, Official Secretary to the Governor-General; and Mr Jeff Barnes, Deputy Official Secretary to the Governor-General.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled, from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Townsville, Queensland.
