On Tuesday 16 April 2024, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Wellington, New Zealand.
Following the departure of the Governor-General from Australia to New Zealand, the proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC.
On arrival in New Zealand, the Governor General and Mrs Hurley attended a program briefing with Her Excellency Ms Harinder Sidhu AM, Australian High Commissioner to New Zealand.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Her Excellency The Right Honourable Dame Cindy Kiro GNZM QSO, Governor-General of New Zealand, attend a traditional Ceremony of Welcome and afternoon tea.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Her Excellency Ms Sidhu AM, meet with staff and their family members at the Australian High Commission in New Zealand.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Her Excellency The Right Honourable Dame Cindy Kiro GNZM QSO, attended a State Dinner at Government House Wellington.
In the morning, the Governor-General was represented at the state funeral of Mr Leslie Twentyman OAM, by Colonel Mark Richards, Honorary Aide-de-Camp to the Governor-General.
