On Saturday 3 June 2017, at the Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial, Christchurch, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Deputy Mayor of Christchurch, Mr Andrew Turner, viewed the memorial and laid a wreath.
Afterwards, at the Department of Conservation Visitor Centre, Stewart Island, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Community Ranger, Ms Jennifer Ross, received a briefing on the local environment and quarantine restrictions.
Later, at Ulva Island, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Ms Ross, conducted a walking tour of the island and met with volunteers.
Then, at Stewart Island, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove participated in a bus tour of the island.
In the afternoon, at Invercargill Airport, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Member for Invercargill, Ms Sarah Dowie MP, and the Mayor of Invercargill, His Worship Tim Shadbolt, attended a Farewell Ceremony.
