City of Gold Coast Visit

On Thursday 9 April 2015, at the City of Gold Coast Council, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, received a briefing on the 2018 Commonwealth Games by the Mayor of the City of Gold Coast, Councillor Tom Tate, Minister for Education and Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games, the Honourable Kate Jones MP and Chairman of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation, Mr Nigel Chamier AM.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Councillor Tate, attended the launch of the Commonwealth Walkway Project at which Lady Cosgrove unveiled the commemorative plaque and the Governor-General laid the first foundation marker.

Later, at Café Catalina, Gold Coast, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a Community Reception to celebrate the launching of the Commonwealth Walkway.

In the evening, at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chairman, Mr Brian Doyle AM, attended the launch of the new Menzies Health Institute Queensland.
