Cosgrove Estate Opening; Mates4Mates Visit; The Royal Australian Regiment Parade; The Royal Australian Regiment Reception
On Monday 23 November 2015, in Townsville, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Directors, Parkside Group, Mr Robert Tapiolas and Mr Wilfred Tapiolas, opened Cosgrove Estate.
Afterwards, in Aitkenvale, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Director, Mates4Mates, Mr Bill Whitburn OAM, visited the Townsville Family Recovery Centre and met with staff and veterans.
Later, at Lavarack Barracks, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Colonel Commandant, The Royal Australian Regiment, Major General Mark Kelly AO DSC (Retd), attended a parade celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of The Royal Australian Regiment at which the Governor-General presented new Queen’s and Regimental Colours to the 2nd and 3rd Battalions, The Royal Australian Regiment. The Governor-General then presented the Unit Citation Streamer for the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm to the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment.
In the evening, at Lavarack Barracks, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Major General Kelly, attended a reception celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of The Royal Australian Regiment with officers, soldiers and guests of the Australian Army’s 3rd Brigade.
