Credentials; Investiture Ceremony for Ms Michelle Bachelet AC

On Wednesday 22 August 2012, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, received from Her Royal Highness Princess Angelika Latufuipeka Halaevalu Mata’aho Napua Okalani Tuku’aho, Letters of Commission accrediting her as High Commissioner for the Kingdom of Tonga. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr Taueli Falekava Kupu (First Secretary) and Mr Leonaitasi Kuluni (First Secretary).

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, received from His Excellency Mr Børge Petersen, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Lars-Christian Sørensen (Commercial Advisor). The Governor-General and Mr Bryce also received Mrs Jytte Petersen.

Later, the Governor-General received from His Excellency Mr Mahamane Elhadji Bania Touré, Letters of Credence accrediting him as the Ambassador of the Republic of Mali. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Taoulé Keita (Second Counsellor) and Mr Maximillian de Vietri (Honorary Consul).

Then, the Governor-General received the Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, Ms Michelle Bachelet AC.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested Ms Michelle Bachelet AC with the insignia of Honorary Companion of the Order of Australia.

In the evening, at the Stamford Plaza Hotel, Brisbane, Mr Bryce, as Patron of Number 75 Squadron Association, and as guest of the Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Mr Ian Campbell PSM, attended a dinner to farewell the Commemorative Mission for the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Milne Bay.
