Dampier Salt Operation; Karratha Clontarf Academy; BHP Billiton Iron Ore shipping facility; Pilbara Indigenous Youth Development and Mentoring Program; Marnti Warajanga language centre; Port Hedland civic reception

On Tuesday 9 August 2011, at Dampier, Western Australia, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Managing Director of Dampier Salt Limited, Ms Denise Goldsworthy, visited the Dampier Salt Operation.

Afterwards, at Karratha Senior High School, the Governor-General as patron, and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Chief Executive Office of the Clontarf Foundation, Mr Gerard Neesham OAM and Karratha Clontarf Academy Director, Mr Darren Rigby, met with student members of the Karratha Clontarf Academy.

Later, at Nelson Point, Port Hedland, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Vice President of External Affairs for BHP Billiton, Mr Ian Fletcher, visited the BHP Billiton Iron Ore shipping facility.

In the afternoon, at South Hedland, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Superintendant for Education and Development for the Polly Farmer Education Centre, Ms Fran Haintz, met with participants of the Pilbara Indigenous Youth Development and Mentoring Program.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Manager of the Wangka Maya Pilbara Aboriginal Language Centre, Ms Nadine Hicks, viewed the Marnti Warajanga photo exhibition and met with linguists.

In the evening, at Port Hedland Council, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Mayor of the Town of Port Hedland Council, Councillor Kelly Howlett, attended a civic reception.
