On Sunday 19 February 2017, at the USS Peary Memorial, Darwin, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Australian American Association of the Northern Territory, Mr Digby Hart, attended the 75th USS Peary Memorial service. The USS Peary was sunk on 19 February 1942 by Japanese Carrier based aircraft and is the greatest loss of life in Australian waters for the United States’ Navy.

Afterwards, at the Darwin War Memorial, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Lord Mayor of Darwin, the Right Worshipful Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim, attended the commemoration for the 75th anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin, where the Governor-General met with veterans of the Bombing of Darwin.

In the afternoon, at Parliament House, Darwin, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, the Honourable Michael Gunner MLA, attended the 75th anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin lunch.

In the evening, at Government House, Darwin, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted an Investiture Ceremony where the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested His Honour the Honourable John Hardy AO with the insignia of the Officer of the Order of Australia.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Administrator of the Northern Territory, His Honour The Honourable John Hardy AO, attended a civic reception. Guests of the civic reception were community organisations of which the Administrator is Patron.
