On Thursday 12 May 2011, at Government House, Canberra, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.
In the afternoon, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator hosted a Duke of Edinburgh awards ceremony and presented recipients with Gold Award Certificates.
Afterwards, the Administrator attended the Cure Cancer Australia Foundation’s Annual Researcher Commemoration Function.
Later, at the Sydney Opera House, the Administrator attended the Indigenous Film Festival’s opening night screening of ‘Here I am’.
Earlier, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the President of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology International University Vietnam, Professor Merilyn Liddel, met with students and attended a lunch hosted in their honour.
Afterwards, at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce visited the Queensland University of Technology School of Nursing and Midwifery Project and attended an afternoon tea in recognition of International Nurses Day.
In the afternoon, at the Reunification Palace, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce met with the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.
In the evening, at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of honour, attended an Australia-Vietnam Gala Concert.
