Federal Executive Council; Visit to the United Kingdom; Commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the commencement of the First World War

On Monday 4 August 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency Rear Admiral the Honourable Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR, presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Afterwards, at the Glasgow Cathedral, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove attended a Commonwealth commemorative service in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, at which the Governor-General delivered a reading.

Later, at the Glasgow City Chambers, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

Then, at George Square, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a commemorative ceremony and military parade, at which the Governor-General laid a wreath at the Cenotaph.

Afterwards, at the Glasgow City Chambers, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Right Honourable Sajid Javid MP and the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Councillor Sadie Docherty, attended a civic reception.

Earlier, at the Australian War Memorial, the Administrator and Mrs Liz Scarce, as guests of the Chairman of the Australian War Memorial Council, Rear Admiral Ken Doolan AO RAN (Retd), and the Director of the Australian War Memorial, the Honourable Dr Brendan Nelson, attended a service to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the commencement of the First World War.
