On Friday 20 February 2009, at Federation Square, Melbourne, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended the inaugural Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Annual Luncheon in support of the Royal Children's Hospital, at which the Governor-General delivered the keynote address.

In the evening, in Bendigo, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the President of the Bendigo Art Gallery Board, Mr John Higgs, attended the Bendigo Art Gallery Foundation black tie dinner. Earlier, at Melbourne International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia of the President of the Republic of Malta, His Excellency Doctor Edward Fenech Adami, by Brigadier Michael Phelps ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-camp.
