On Friday 22 August 2008, at Government House, Perth, the Administrator, His Excellency Dr Ken Michael AC and Mrs Julie Michael hosted a morning tea in honour of the visit to Western Australia by the President of the Worldwide Educative and Cultural Society of Kastellorizians (Athens), Professor Evagelos Hadjiyannakis and Mrs Hadjiyannakis.

Afterwards, at the Royal Perth Golf Club, the Administrator and Mrs Michael attended the Centenary Celebrations, at which the Administrator delivered an address. Later, at the Royal Perth Yacht Club, the Administrator, as guest of honour, attended the Royal Perth Yacht Club and Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club Combined Mess Night. Earlier, at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing, the People's Republic of China, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC was received by the President of the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Hu Jintao. Afterwards, at the Australian Embassy, Beijing, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended a morning tea with the Embassy staff, hosted by the Australian Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, His Excellency Dr Geoff Raby. Later, at the Hilton Hotel, Beijing, Their Excellencies, as guests of honour, attended a Business Club Australia lunch, hosted by the Chairman of Certified Practising Accountants Australia Beijing Committee, Mr Alex Malley. Then, at the Great Hall of the People, Beijing, Their Excellencies were received by the Chairman of the People's National Congress, His Excellency Wu Bangguo. Afterwards, at the Hilton Hotel, Beijing, the Governor-General received the Minister for Resources and Energy, Minister for Tourism, the Honourable Martin Ferguson AM MP. In the evening, at the Hilton Hotel, Beijing, Their Excellencies, as guests of honour, attended a reception for BlueScope Steel, hosted by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Paul O'Malley, at which the Governor-General delivered an address.
