On Friday 24 July 2009, at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Director, Dr Gerard Vaughan, viewed the John Brack Exhibition.

Afterwards, at the Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority, Melbourne, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Chair, Ms Christine Nixon APM, received an overview of the reconstruction and recovery effort following the February bushfires. In the afternoon, in Kinglake, Victoria, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Principal, Ms Janette Cook, met with students, teachers and parents at the Middle Kinglake Primary School. Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Marcus Stephen MP, by Commander Geoffrey Fiedler ADC RAN, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
