On Friday 26 January 2007 at Mansfield, Victoria, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery, as guests of the Mayor of Mansfield, Councillor Sandie Jeffcoat, attended a Citizenship Ceremony at the Australia Day Celebrations, at which the Governor-General delivered an address and presented Certificates of Citizenship before presenting Citizens of the Year Awards to thirteen CFA Brigades in the Mansfield region.

Afterwards, at the Mansfield CFA Station, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery, as guests of CFA Chairman, Mr Len Foster AO, attended a briefing on the regional bushfires and met local volunteers and support groups. His Excellency used this occasion to thank all individuals and groups who fight bushfires in various parts of Australia for their outstanding work.
