On Friday 27 March 2009, at Government House, Canberra, the Administrator Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.
Afterwards, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator addressed School Captains from 33 New South Wales Government secondary schools. Later, at The Scots College, Sydney, the Administrator and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE attended a ceremony at which the Administrator officially opened the Graeme Clark Centre for Innovation in the Sciences. In Addis Ababa, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, as guests of the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, Dr Catherine Hamlin AC, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE visited the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital and Midwife Training School. Afterwards, the Governor-General was received by the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, His Excellency Lieutenant Girma Wolde-Giorgis. Later, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce were guests of honour at a State Lunch hosted by the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, His Excellency Lieutenant Girma Wolde-Giorgis. Then, the Governor-General received the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Ato Meles Zenawi. In the afternoon, the Governor-General received the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Jean Ping.
