Governor-General visits Christchurch

Just over a year since the second major earthquake hit New Zealand's second largest city, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce visited Christchurch to learn about the long reconstruction process.

Hosted by His Worship the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr Bob Parker (L) and the Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery, the Honourable Gerry Brownlee, Ms Bryce laid a wreath before the Bridge of Remembrance before visiting the renewed Cashel Mall project.

The destroyed central shopping district has been re-born with a unique assembly of shipping containers which now form a series of small shops.

Stopping by the grocer for supplies, Ms Bryce ran into the town crier for a chat. The visit was complete after a return visit to Cathedral Square to discuss the restoration of Christchurch Cathedral.
