Governor-General visits the Federated States of Micronesia

The Governor-General joined students and residents creating local produce as part of the Island Food Community of Pohnpei (IFCP).

The non-government organisation has operated since 2004 and has received over US$52,000 from Australia in project grants.

Ms Bryce watched a presentation by local year six students before meeting organisation representatives involved in IFCP projects.

The Governor-General also visited the Pacific Patrol Boat Base at Kolonia Port, Pohnpei, and was greeted by Royal Australian Navy officers and the Captains of FSS Micronesia and FSS Palikir, before boarding the FSS Micronesia.

Both boats were Australia’s gifts to Micronesia, to assist in improving the country’s capabilities for fisheries enforcement, search and rescue, disaster relief, transport and medical evacuations.
