Governor-General's visit to the Republic of the Philippines
The Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce visited two important projects that receive assistance from AusAID during the first day of their State Visit to the Republic of the Philippines.
Ms Bryce and Mr Bryce observed the Conditional Cash Transfer Program being implemented in Taguig City and met Filipino beneficiaries at an elementary school in Barangay Sta Ana.
The program aims to reduce poverty for its beneficiaries and is being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, which receives technical assistance from AusAID.
Later, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce visited the BRACE Disaster Risk Reduction Program, which aims to improve the resilience of urban communities to cope with natural disasters.
During the visit, Ms Bryce met women community leaders in a slum community in Lower Bicutan before viewing a Habitat for Humanity housing compound in Western Bicutan.
