On Friday 31 March 2017, on Hamilton Island, the Governor-General, General the Hounourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as guest of the Chief Executive Officer of Hamilton Island, Mr Glenn Bourke, was briefed on the impact of Tropical Cyclone Debbie and the subsequent recovery efforts.
Afterwards, the Governor-General, as guest of Mr Bourke, viewed cyclone affected properties and met with volunteer response clean-up crews.
Later, at Hamilton Island airport, the Governor-General met with passengers being evacuated from the island.
Then, in Proserpine, the Governor-General, as guest of the Mayor of the Whitsunday Regional Council, Councillor Andrew Willcox, was briefed on the impact of Tropical Cyclone Debbie and the subsequent recovery efforts.
Afterwards, at the Proserpine State Primary School Recovery Centre, the Governor-General, met with Queensland Emergency Services staff and Red Cross volunteers.
Later, at the Whitsunday Disaster Coordination Centre, Proserpine, the Governor-General, as guest of Councillor Willcox, addressed members of the local disaster management group.
Then, in Proserpine, the Governor-General met with shop owners cleaning-up in the main street following Tropical Cyclone Debbie.
Afterwards, at Proserpine State Emergency Services Headquarters, the Governor-General, as guest of Local Controller, Mr Mark Connors, met with staff and volunteers.
Later, in Proserpine, the Governor-General met with residents cleaning up their properties following Tropical Cyclone Debbie.
Then, between Proserpine and Bowen, the Governor-General viewed flood affected agricultural properties and crops.
In the afternoon, at Koorelah Farms, Bowen, the Governor-General, as guest of Chair of the River Trust, Mr Wayne Born, viewed the damage to tomato crops following Tropical Cyclone Debbie and then met with local mango growers.
Afterwards, at Bowen State Emergency Services Headquarters, the Governor-General, as guest of Local Controller, Mr David Thicker, attended a lunch with State Emergency Services volunteers.
Later, at Bowen Wharf, the Governor-General met with members of the Australia Army contingent assisting with the clean-up post Tropical Cyclone Debbie.
Then, in Bowen, the Governor-General, as guest of Councillor Willcox, viewed cyclone damaged infrastructure and community facilities.
In the evening, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Lady Cosgrove hosted a reception for the Lung Foundation Australia.
Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the Governor-General of the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Sir Frank Ofagioro Kabui, by Colonel Chris Austin ADC, Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
