Julia Creek, Queensland

On Friday 12 July 2019, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, as guests of Mayor Belinda Murphy, met with representatives of the McKinlay Shire Council and attended a briefing on flood recovery and rebuilding efforts at the Julia Creek Visitor Information Centre.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Allan Hick, Owner, visited Lindfield Station to inspect recovery and rebuilding efforts following the 2019 floods.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Lyn Clout, President, attended a morning tea with members of the Julia Creek Branch of the Queensland Country Women’s Association.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Paul Woodhouse, Board Chair, inspected upgrades to the Julia Creek Multi-Purpose Health Facility and met with staff of the facility.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Katelyn Priddle, Principal, met with students, teachers and parents of the Julia Creek Council’s School Holiday program at the Julia Creek State School.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mayor Murphy, attended a civic reception at the McKinlay Shire Council Chambers.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mayor Murphy, attended a whole-of-community dinner in recognition of flood recovery and rebuilding efforts at the Julia Creek Civic Centre.
