Launch of the Sydney University Law Society Careers’ Guide; European Australian Business Council Mission to Europe

On Tuesday 4 June 2013, at the University of Sydney, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, delivered an address at the launch of the Sydney University Law Society Careers' Guide, as part of the Publicly Interested Careers Fair.

Earlier, in Paris, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO, attended a briefing for the European mission by the President of the European Australian Business Council, Mr Alastair Walton.

Afterwards, at the Luxembourg Palace, the Governor-General, as guest of the Chair of the France-Australia Friendship Group, Senator Marc Daunis, and accompanied by members of the European Australian Business Council, attended a bilateral meeting and exchange with Senators and other members of the Energy and Economics Committee, before viewing the Senate Conference Room and Library.

Later, in Brussels, Belgium, the Governor-General and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, were welcomed by the Australian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, His Excellency Mr Duncan Lewis AO DSC CSC and Mrs Jenny Lewis.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a visit briefing by the Ambassador.

Later, at the Ieper Town Hall, Ieper, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a meeting with the Major of Ieper, Mr Jan Durnez.

Then, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, invested Mr Johan Durnez with the Honorary Medal of the Order of Australia, for service to Australian-Belgian relations, particularly his contribution to promoting the role played by Australians during World War I in Belgium. The Governor-General then presented an Honorary Returned Services League Life Membership to the former Chairman of the Last Post Association, Mr Guy Gruwez.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guest of the Australian Ambassador, attended a delegation dinner with members of the European Australian Business Council.

In the evening, at the Menin Gate Memorial, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Mayor, and the Chairman of the Last Post Association, Mr Benoit Mottrie, attended the Last Post ceremony at which the Governor-General laid a wreath, and later met with Australian community members.
