On Thursday 5 July 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove met with Mr Esteban García Vilasánchez, President of Spanish shipbuilding company Navantia, at their headquarters in Madrid.

Afterwards, Their Excellencies, met with Mr José Manuel Entrecanales, Chief Executive Officer of Acciona, and received a briefing on renewable energy and infrastructure projects at the company’s headquarters in Madrid.

In the afternoon, Their Excellencies were farwelled from Spain by Mr Timothy Kane, Chargé d’affaires for the Australian Embassy, Spain, before travelling to Lisbon, Portugal. In Lisbon, Their Excellencies were briefed by His Excellency Mr Peter Rayner, Ambassador to the Portuguese Republic, and met with locally-engaged staff from the Australian Embassy.

Afterwards, the Governor-General met with His Excellency Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic, at the Presidential Palace.

Later, Their Excellencies attended an official dinner hosted Professor Rebelo de Sousa, at the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda.
