On Sunday 10 April 2016, at Mary Mackillop Aged Care Centre, Hawthorn East, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the CEO, Ms Camille Barker, visited the Centre and met with staff, volunteers and residents during morning tea.

Afterwards, at the Shrine of Remembrance, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President, Cretan Federation Australia and New Zealand, Mr Michael Houdalakis, attended the 75th Anniversary Commemorations of the Battle of Crete, at which the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove laid a wreath.

Later, at the Shrine of Remembrance, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President, Rats of Tobruk Association Victoria, Mr Ronald Williamson, and the Secretary, 2/4th Australian General Hospital Association, Mrs Heather MacFarlane, attended the 75th Anniversary Commemorations of the Siege of Tobruk, at which the Governor-General made a reading and laid a wreath with Lady Cosgrove.
