On Wednesday 25 May 2016, at Monash University, Melbourne, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove attended the Engineering graduation, at which the Governor-General was admitted to the degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa and delivered the graduation address.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President and Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, Professor Margaret Gardner AO, attended a lunch at Monash University House.

In the evening, at the RG Casey Building, Barton, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Peter Varghese AO, attended a reception in honour of Founder and Director of the Asha Community Health and Development Society, Dr Kiran Martin.
