Mental Health conference; Service to commemorate HMAS KUTTABUL; Sydney Peace Prize; Domus Australia Pilgrimage Centre; ???Rituals of Australian Life' exhibition; Lunch for Australian clergy and senior Vatican officials; Reception for prominent Australians and Italians with Australian links

On Wednesday 1 June 2011, at the Masonic Centre, Sydney, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, officially opened the conference ‘Mental Health in the Land of Drought and Flooding Rain: Impacts and Interventions’, at which she gave the opening address.

Afterwards, at the Kuttabul Memorial Site, Garden Island, the Administrator attended a memorial service to commemorate the 69th anniversary of the sinking of HMAS KUTTABUL, at which the Administrator laid a wreath.

Later, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator received a call from the Ambassador of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Ms Jacqueline Nomhle Zwambila.

Afterwards, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE, received the Honourable Tom Bathurst QC, Chief Justice of New South Wales, and Mrs Robyn Bathurst.

In the evening, at Sydney Town Hall, the Administrator attended the Sydney Peace Foundation’s 2011 Sydney Peace Prize, at which she announced the winner.

Earlier, in Rome, Italy, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of His Eminence Cardinal George Pell, and Manager, Mr Danny Casey, visited the Australian Catholic Church’s ‘Domus Australia’ Pilgrimage Centre.

Afterwards, at the Vatican Museum, Vatican City, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce viewed the ‘Rituals of Australian Life’ exhibition and Sistine Chapel.

Later, at the Vatican City, the Governor-General attended an audience with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.

Then, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a meeting with the Cardinal Secretary of State to the Holy See, His Eminence Tarcisio Bertone.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Australian Ambassador to the Holy See, His Excellency the Honourable Tim Fischer AC, attended a lunch for Australian clergy and senior Vatican officials.

In the evening, at the residence of the Australian Ambassador to the Italian Republic, His Excellency Mr David Ritchie AO, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a reception for prominent Australians and Italians with Australian links.
