On Monday 14 May 2007, at Government House, Canberra, Their Excellencies the Governor-General, Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC, as Patron of Royal United Services Institute of Australia, and Mrs??Marlena Jeffery, hosted a reception for guests attending the RUSI International Seminar, at which the Governor-General invested General John Abizaid, former Commander US Central Command, as an Honorary Officer in the Order of Australia.

The Governor-General sent a message of condolence on behalf of the government and the people of Australia, following the passing of the Head of State of Samoa, His Highness Malietoa Tanumafili II. Afterwards, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Ludwig Scotty MP, by Colonel Dennis Scanlan CSM RFD, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
