On Monday 18 February 2008, at Defence Establishment Fairbairn, ACT, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended the Ceremonial Arrival of Their Excellencies the Governor-General of New Zealand the Honourable Anand Satyanand, PCNZM QSO and Mrs Susan Satyanand.

Afterwards, at Parliament House, Canberra, Their Excellencies attended the launch of a National and International Design Competition for World War I and World War II Memorials at which the Governor-General delivered the keynote address. Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery hosted to lunch Their Excellencies the Governor-General of New Zealand and Mrs Satyanand. In the evening, at Government House, Canberra, Their Excellencies hosted a State Dinner in honour of the Governor-General of New Zealand. The Governor-General of New Zealand was accompanied by Her Excellency Mrs Susan Satyanand; His??Excellency Dr John Larkindale QSO and Mrs Philippa Larkindale; Mr Don Smith; and Lieutenant Zoe Husband RNZN. Other guests were: Dr Boyd Blackwell and Mrs Susan Blackwell; Senator the Honourable Alan Ferguson; The Honourable Chief Justice Murray Gleeson AC and Mrs Robyn Gleeson; Ms Jenny Goddard; Dr Allan Hawke and Mrs Maria Hawke; Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston AC AFC and Mrs Liz Houston; Mr Kantilal Jinna and Mrs??Jyoti Jinna; The Honourable Justice Michael Kirby AC CMG and Mr Johan van Vloten; Mr Michael L'Estrange AO and Mrs Jane L'Estrange; Mr Robin Nair and Mrs??Adela Nair; Mr John O'Neill AO and Mrs Julie O'Neill; Dr Jim Peacock AC and Mrs Margie Peacock; Mr Muneshwar Sahadeo and Mrs Sunita Sahadeo; Professor Dharmendra Sharma and Mrs Madhuri Sharma; and Professor Hugh White. Earlier, the Governor-General sent a message of sympathy and support to the Mayor of Mackay Queensland for those in the community affected by the devastating floods.
