On Monday 19 March 2007, at Kelvin Grove Campus, Queensland University of Technology, Queensland, Their Excellencies the Governor-General, Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General officially opened the Student Learning Support Centre.

Afterwards at Toowoomba, the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery received the Professor of Communications and Media Studies, Department of Mass Communications, University of Southern Queensland, Dr Bruce Horsfield accompanied by Dr Julianne Stewart. In the evening, Their Excellencies, as guests of honour, attended a dinner hosted by the Chancellor of the University of Southern Queensland, Mrs Bobbie Brazil and Mr??Lyn Brazil.
