On Monday 2 June 2008, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC received the Australian Ambassador-designate to the Russian Federation, Ms Margaret Twomey.
Afterwards, Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Mrs Marlena Jeffery commenced an official visit to Victoria. In the afternoon, at Government House, Melbourne, the Governor-General received the Director, Institute for Judaism and Civilisation, Rabbi Dr Shimon Cowen. In the evening, in Melbourne, Their Excellencies hosted to dinner: Mr Jim Allen; Lady Potter AC; Lady Southey AC; Commodore James Dickson AM MBE RAN (Retd) and Mrs Anthea Dickson; and The Hon Sir James Gobbo AC CVO and Lady Gobbo. Earlier, at Sydney International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the transit through Australia of the King of Tonga, His Majesty King George Tupou V, by Colonel Stephen Alexander, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
