On Monday 21 April 2008, at St Andrews Cathedral Sydney, the Administrator, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, attended the War Widows' Guild of NSW Service of Dedication where the Administrator read the First Lesson and planted the first cross.

Later, at Government House, Canberra, the Administrator hosted a reception to celebrate the 82nd Birthday of Her Majesty The Queen. On Monday 21 April 2008, the Governor-General, His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC sent the following message to Her Majesty The Queen: ???My wife and I join with the Australian people in extending to Your Majesty our best wishes and loyal and affectionate greetings for your birthday.' In the United Arab Emirates, the Governor-General was received by the Deputy President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In the afternoon, in Abu Dhabi, the Governor-General toured the Masdar Future Energy Facility.
