On Monday 28 April 2008, in Jerusalem, Israel, Their Excellencies, the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery were officially welcomed to Israel at the commencement of their State Visit, by the President of the State of Israel, Mr Shimon Peres.

Afterwards, in Jerusalem, the Governor-General was received by the President of the State of Israel, Mr Shimon Peres. In the afternoon at Beersheva, Their Excellencies toured the Nagev Museum; the Commonwealth War Cemetery; and attended the Commemorative Service for the 90th Anniversary of the Charge of the Light Horse, at which the Governor-General and President Peres unveiled the Light Horse Memorial and dedicated the Park of the Australian Soldier. Earlier, in Jerusalem, Mrs Jeffery toured the Islamic Museum.
