On Monday, 9 July 2007, at the National Archives of Australia, Parkes, ACT, Their Excellencies the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General launched celebrations to commemorate the signing of the Australian Constitution and afterwards, presided at a Citizenship Ceremony.

Afterwards, at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, the Governor-General delivered an address and unveiled a plaque to commemorate Royal Australian Survey Corps Units that served in theatres of war. In the afternoon, following the departure from Australia of the Governor-General and Mrs Jeffery on a working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO.
