On Wednesday 29 February 2012, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator, Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, received the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Dr Hynek Kmonicek.

Afterwards, the Administrator, as guest of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, attended the inaugural Monica O’Loughlin Women Against Heart Disease Lunch.

Later, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE hosted a reception in support of ‘Giant Steps’.

Earlier, in Christchurch, New Zealand, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Minister for Canterbury, the Honourable Gerry Brownlee, the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr Bob Parker, and the Bishop of Christchurch Diocese, the Very Reverend Victoria Mathews, observed a traditional Ngai Tahu welcome ceremony and laid a wreath at the Remembrance Bridge.

Afterwards, at Cashel Mall, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Manager of the Central City Business Association, Mr Paul Lonsdale, viewed the retail development.

Later, at the Christchurch Council Chambers, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Head of the Christchurch Earthquake Recovery, Mr Roger Sutton, and Chief Executive of the Christchurch City Council, Mr Tony Mariott, met with civic leaders and Christchurch earthquake volunteers, and then viewed the earthquake damage at Cathedral Square.

Then, at Burnham Military Camp, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a lunch as guests of the Director General Reserve Forces and Youth Development, Brigadier Sean Trengrove DSD MVO, and Commander of the Burnham Military Camp, Major Bill Blair.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce guests of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Roger Field, visited Lincoln University.
