Montevideo, Uruguay; Buenos Aires, Argentina

On Monday 8 August 2016, at the Uruguay Peacekeeper Training Centre, Montevideo, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as a guest of the Director, National System for the Support of Peacekeeping Operations, General Carlos Sequeira, visited the Uruguay National School for Peacekeeping at which the Governor-General addressed a class of international students.

Afterwards, at the Supreme Court of Justice, the Governor-General met with the President of the Uruguayan Supreme Court of Justice, Dr Ricardo Pérez Manrique.

Later, at the Plaza Independencia, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, accompanied by the Head of the Casa Militar (Military House), General Alfredo Erramún, laid a wreath at the General José Artigas Monument.

Then, at the Executive Tower, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, His Excellency Dr Tabaré Vazqúez, who was accompanied by the Foreign Minister, Mr Rodolfo Nin Nova; and Minister for Public Health, Dr Jorge Basso.

Afterwards, at the Palacio Santos, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the Vice President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay and President of the Senate, Mr Raúl Sendic, who was accompanied by Minister Nova.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a State Lunch hosted in their honour by Vice President Sendic.

Then, at the Montevideo City Hall, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of Montevideo, Mayor Daniel Martinez, attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General was presented with the key to the City of Montevideo.

Afterwards, at Buenos Aires Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove were welcomed to the Argentine Republic by the Australian Ambassador to Argentina, His Excellency Mr Noel Campbell; the Argentine Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Mr Hugo Gobbi; the Argentine National Director of Ceremonial, Dr Betina Pasquali de Fonseca; the Argentine Director for Asia and Oceania, Minister Estanislao Zawels; and Air Base Commander, Commodore Ruben Benza.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove received a bilateral briefing from the Australian Ambassador to Argentina, His Excellency Noel Campbell.

Afterwards, at the Guelmes Gallery, Buenos Aires, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a traditional Tango performance by the Piazzolla Theatre.
