Newcastle Museum; Anglican Care Scenic Lodge Merewether; East Lake Macquarie Dementia Services; Leapfrog; Dinner for the King of Tonga

On Friday 22 October 2010, at the Newcastle Museum, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor John Tate, attended a reception at which the Governor-General unveiled ‘the Buck’.

Afterwards, at Merewether, Newcastle, the Governor-General officially opened Anglican Care’s new residential aged care facility ‘Anglican Care Scenic Lodge Merewether’.

Later, at the Belmont Hospital, the Governor-General officially opened East Lake Macquarie Dementia Service’s new respite facility.

Then, at Islington, Newcastle, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a reception at which the Governor-General opened LeapFrog Ability and Lifestyle Solution’s new facilities.

In the evening, at Government House, Canberra, the King of Tonga, His Majesty King George Tupou V, invested the Governor-General with the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of the Crown, and the Official Secretary to the Governor-General, Mr Stephen Brady, as a Commander of the Royal Order of the Crown.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a dinner in honour of the King of Tonga. Guests included: Vice Admiral Russell Crane AO CSM RAN and Ms Michelle Crane; Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie AO DSC CSM and Mrs Carmel Gillespie; Mrs June Healy and Ms Katie Healy; Lieutenant General David Hurley AC DSC and Mrs Linda Hurley; Dr Graeme Killer AO and Mrs Jan Killer; His Excellency Dr John Larkindale and Mrs Philippa Larkindale; His Excellency Mr Charles Lepani OBE and Dr Katherine Lepani; Mr Dennis Richardson AO and Mrs Betty Richardson; His Excellency Lemalu Tate Simi; His Royal Highness The Crown Prince Tupouto'a-Lavaka and Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess Nanasipau'u Tuku'aho; Mr David Dunkley; Mrs Sela U A Tukia/Moengangongo; Miss Tania Tupou.

Earlier, at the University of Newcastle, Mr Bryce, as guest of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nicholas Saunders, opened an exhibition showcasing the works of architecture students from Italy and Greece.
