Official welcome ceremony and meeting with President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Women's Union and UNAIDS meeting on HIV/AIDS; meeting with the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; meeting with the General Secretary of the Communist Party and Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; State Dinner

On Monday 9 May 2011, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, received the Consultant to the Judicial Commission of New South Wales, the Honourable Michael Campbell QC.

Afterwards, the Administrator and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE hosted a lunch for the Administrator of Norfolk Island His Honour Mr Owen Walsh and Mrs Bianca Walsh.

In the afternoon, at Red Cross House, Sydney, the Administrator attended the World Red Cross Day awards presentation.

Earlier, at the Presidential Palace, Hanoi, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended a welcome ceremony and met with the President of Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency Mr Nguyen Minh Triet, and Madam Tran Thi Kim Chi.

Afterwards, at the Vietnam Women’s Museum, Hanoi, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Director, Ms Nguyen Bich Van, met with people living with HIV/AIDs.

In the afternoon, at the Office of the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Hanoi, the Governor-General met with the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency Mr Nguyen Tan Dung.

Afterwards, at the Headquarters of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Hanoi, the Governor-General met with the General Secretary of the Communist Party and Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency Mr Nguyen Phu Trong.

In the evening, at Government Guest House, Hanoi, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency Mr Nguyen Minh Triet, attended a State Dinner hosted in their honour.

Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Marcus Stephen MP, by Brigadier Christopher Hamilton ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
