On Tuesday 15 March 2016, in Subiaco, Perth, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director, Professor Jonathon Carapetis, visited the Telethon Kids Institute, received briefings on current research, viewed the facilities and met with staff and researchers.

Afterwards, in Perth, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Vice President, Corporate Affairs Iron Ore, Mr Julius Matthys, viewed the BHP Billiton Iron Ore Integrated Remote Operations Centre and met with staff.

Later, in Fremantle, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Steve McDermott and Chairman, Dr Patrick Colgan AM, visited the St Patrick’s Community Support Centre, served the lunch meal and met with clients, staff and volunteers.

Then, at the Warrawee Women’s Refuge, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Executive Officer, The Lucy Saw Centre Association Inc., Ms Anne Moore, viewed the facilities and met with staff, clients and their children.

Afterwards, at the Wesley Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Executive Director, Black Swan Health Ltd, Ms Terina Grace, visited the Centre and met with ‘Fremantle Street Doctor’ service providers, ‘Orange Sky Laundry’ volunteers, ‘Closing the Gap: Aboriginal Health Program’ staff and clients and ‘Partners in Recovery, Healthy Minds and Headspace’ service providers.

Later, at the Town Hall Centre, Fremantle, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor, City of Fremantle, Dr Brad Pettitt, attended a civic reception.
