On Wednesday 26 April 2017, at the Catholic Health Services International Clinic, Port Moresby, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Former Head of the Catholic Church Service, Sister Tarcisia Hunhoff, viewed the Australian-funded programs and received a briefing on the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Papua New Guinea.
Afterwards, at Gurney Airport, Alotau, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Governor of Milne Bay Province, the Honourable Titus Philemon MP, attended a Ceremonial Welcome.
Later, at Turnbull Field Memorial, Alotau, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Australian Defence staff, Major Barry Vandenhurk, laid a wreath and met with members of the local community.
Then, at Milne Bay Memorial, Alotau, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Major Vanderhurk, attended a commemoration ceremony and met with members of the public.
Afterwards, at the French Victoria Cross Memorial, Alotau, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Major Vanderhurk, laid a wreath in honour of Corporal John ‘Jack’ French VC.
In the afternoon, at Driftwood Resort, Alotau, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Provincial Governor, the Honourable Titus Philemon MP, attended a lunch with Australian expatriates and members of the Milne Bay community.
Afterwards, at Gurney Airport, Alotau, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chairman of the Milne Bay Medical Board, Mr Peter Neville, visited the Safe Motherhood Intervention Project, where they unveiled a plaque commemorating WWII and received a briefing on the The Hand Of Rescue (THOR) flying medical operations.
Later, at Gurney Airport, Alotau, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a Ceremonial Farewell from Milne Bay.
Then, at Jacksons International Airport, Port Moresby, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Commander Papua New Guinea Defence Force, Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo DMS CBE, attended a Ceremonial Farewell to conclude their State Visit to Papua New Guinea.
