Regional visit to Orange
On Monday 13 May 2013, at Orange Regional Airport, New South Wales, the Governor-General the Honourable Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, were welcomed by the Mayor of Orange City Council, Councillor John Davis.
Afterwards, at Yarrawong Place, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Manager, Ms Robyn Brice, viewed the Orange and District Early Education Program and then, in recognition of National Volunteer Week, presented certificates to four volunteers who have provided 10 years support to the service.
Later, at the Orange Community Information and Service Centre, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Community Services Manager, Ms Maureen Horth, met with volunteer mentors and refugee and migrant families taking part in the Orange City Council’s Migrant Support Service program.
Then, at the TAFE NSW Western Institute, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Institute Director, Ms Kate Baxter, received a briefing on the Indigenous Police Recruit Our Way Delivery program, viewed the Heavy Vehicle Driver Training Simulator and met with staff at the Aboriginal Health Worker Training Mobile Unit.
Afterwards, at CareWest Glenroi Pre-School, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the CareWest Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tim Curran, met with staff and students.
Later, at the Orange Health Service, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the General Manager, Ms Catherine Nowlan, met with volunteers from the Wayfinders program, viewed the Linear Accelerator and the Cath Laboratory and received a briefing on the Acute Medical Unit.
Then, at the Civic Centre, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Mayor, attended a Civic Reception in recognition of National Volunteer Week.
In the evening, at the Duntryleague Guesthouse, the Governor-General hosted a dinner for young women leaders in the Orange community.
