On Tuesday 24 January 2023, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) received a call from Mr Matt Stephens, ABC Riverland.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, as guests of Mr Tony Sharley, Owner, Murray River Trails, inspected damage caused by recent flooding.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Peter Hunter, Mayor, Renmark Paringa Council, received a briefing from the Council's Incident Management Team on the progress of flood recovery and attended a morning tea with Council staff.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Peter Hunter, visited flood affected areas of Renmark where they met with Council staff, contractors and others involved in recovery operations.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Renmark, South Australia, to Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a reception for the State and Territory Finalists of the 2023 Australian of the Year Awards.
