On Saturday 14 March 2009, at The Rocks, Sydney, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General as Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force presented the 2008 Gloucester Cup to the Commanding Officer of HMAS PARRAMATTA.

Afterward, at Town Hall, Sydney, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended the Freedom of Entry by the Royal Australian Navy into the City of Sydney at which the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force, reviewed the Parade. In the evening, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a reception in recognition of the Royal Australian Navy's Freedom of Entry and Fleet Review in Sydney Harbour. On Monday 16 March 2009, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE departed Australia on an Official Visit to Africa. Earlier, the Proclamation assuming the Administration of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO.
