On Saturday 15 November 2008, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO and Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE hosted a reception for participants of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Program, at which the Administrator presented Gold Award Certificates.
Earlier, in Malta, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE as guests of the Mayor of Mdina, Mr Peter Sant Manduca, visited the Mdina Gate and the Carmelite Priory Museum. Afterwards, at the Pieta Military Cemetery, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Local Supervisor, Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Mr Peter Fitzgerald MBE, laid a wreath in honour of those who have lost their lives in war. Later, at Valletta, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the President, St Johns Co-Cathedral Foundation, Monsignor Phillip Calleja, toured the St Johns Co-Cathedral. Then, at Valletta, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Chief Executive Officer, Heritage Malta, Dr Luciano Mule Stagno, toured the Museum of Archaeology. Afterwards, at Auberge De Castille, Valletta, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of honour, attended a luncheon hosted by the Prime Minister of Malta, Dr Lawrence Gonzi and Mrs Catherine Gonzi. In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce departed Malta on a State Visit to the Republic of Singapore. Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the Governor-General of the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Sir Nathaniel Waena by Group Captain Brian Duddington AM ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
