On Saturday 28 June 2008, at The Cloisters, Perth, Their Excellencies, the Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC and Mrs Marlena Jeffery attended the blessing of the Bishop Hale statue by the Archbishop of Perth, the Most Reverend Roger Herft.

Afterwards, at St George's Cathedral, Perth, Their Excellencies attended a service to celebrate Founders' Day, at which the Governor-General presented the inaugural Bishop Hale Medal. Later, at Government House, Perth, Their Excellencies attended a morning tea at which the Governor-General officially launched the book From Slate to Cyberspace. In the afternoon, at Sydney International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the Governor-General of Solomon Islands, His Excellency Sir Nathaniel Waena GCMG CSI, by Commander Michael J. Hickey, RAN, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
