On Tuesday 3 July 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, visited the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.

At the European Parliament, the Governor-General attended a meeting with Ms Elżbieta Bieńkowska, the European Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and members of the European Australian Business Council (EABC).

Afterwards, the Governor-General met with Mr Bernd Lange MEP, the Chairman of the International Trade Committee, and participated in discussion with other MEPs and members of the EABC.

Then, the Governor-General, observed a plenary vote of the European Parliament.

In the afternoon, as the guest of Ms Ulrike Muller MEP, Chair of the Delegation for Relations with Australia and New Zealand, the Governor-General attended lunch with MEPs and members of the EABC. During the lunch, the Governor-General delivered remarks and met with Ms Mairead McGuiness MEP, Vice-President of the European Parliament.

Afterwards, the Governor-General attended a meeting with Mr Vladis Dombroskis, Vice-President for the Euro and Social Dialogue, and members of the EABC.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove travelled to Amiens, France, where they hosted a reception for Australians attending the memorial service of the Battle of Hamel.
