On Sunday 22 February 2009, at Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE attended the Together for Victoria - National Day of Mourning and Memorial Service to honour the victims of Victoria's devastating bushfires and to recognise the courage and tireless efforts of emergency service workers.

In the evening, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, as Patron of Alzheimer's Australia, and Mr Bryce hosted a reception for participants of the Younger Onset Dementia Summit. Afterwards, at Defence Establishment Fairbairn, Canberra, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended the ceremonial arrival of the President of the Republic of Malta, His Excellency Dr Edward Fenech-Adami and Mrs Mary Fenech-Adami. Earlier, at Melbourne International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the arrival in Australia of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, by Captain Frank Kresse ADC RANR, an Honorary Aide-de-camp.
