Sydney Chamber Opera's The Cunning Little Vixen; King of Tonga birthday parade and celebrations
On Monday 1 August 2011, at CarriageWorks, Chippendale, New South Wales, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO attended the Sydney Chamber Opera’s production of Leoš Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen.
Earlier at Pangai Lahi, Nuku’alofa, Kingdom of Tonga, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, attended a parade in honour of the birthday of the King of Tonga, His Majesty King George Tupou V, at which the Governor-General accompanied the King of Tonga on a review of the parade.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a lunch in honour of the King of Tonga.
Then, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the King of Tonga, attended a cultural performance which included a Tau’olunga performed by the Honourable Salote Maumautaimi, a group performance by students of Queen Salote College, and a lakalaka performance by Tatakamotonga Village.
In the evening, at the Royal Palace, Nuku’alofa, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the King of Tonga, attended a Command Performance, at which the Camerata Pasifika Ensemble of Soloists performed.
Earlier, at Brisbane International Airport, the Governor-General was represented at the departure from Australia of the President of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Václav Klaus, by Commander Lachlan King ADC RAN, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
