Sydney, Merimbula, Quaama, Cobargo, New South Wales; Canberra, Australia Capital Territory

On Friday 9 October 2020, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Admiralty House, Sydney, to Merimbula, New South Wales.

On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Cr Russell Fitzpatrick, Mayor, received an update on bushfire recovery and rebuilding in the Bega Valley Shire and met with residents from fire-affected communities in Kiah, Towamba and Pericoe.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Veronica Abbott, Coordinator, Quaama Bushfire Relief Centre, attended a morning tea with community members impacted by bushfire.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley attended a lunch with Cobargo community leaders and volunteers involved in bushfire response, relief and rebuilding.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley visited the Cobargo Bushfire Relief Centre and met with volunteers.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with BlazeAid volunteers and local property owners.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, accompanied by Ms Emma Reedy, Associate Director, Operational Projects, Resilience NSW, visited and met with residents of a Resilience NSW Mindaroo Temporary Accommodation Pod.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley returned to Government House, Canberra.
