Sydney, Moruya, Mogo, Batemans Bay, New South Wales

On Thursday 9 January 2020, Their Excellencies, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled to Moruya, New South Wales.

On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with Councillor Liz Innes, Mayor, Eurobodalla Council; the Honourable Andrew Constance MP, State Member for Bega; and Mr Dick Adams, Recovery Coordinator for Southern NSW.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Jeff Lucas, Acting Regional Manager – South, received a briefing on the bushfire response and recovery activities at the Moruya RFS Incident Control Centre.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Chad Staples, Director, met with staff at the Mogo Zoo and discussed the response efforts during recent bushfires.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley visited the Mogo township and viewed the damage, visited local businesses, and met with local residents impacted by the bushfires.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Anthony Bellette, Club Captain, met with members of the Batemans Bay Surf Life Saving Club, community members, and representatives of the Grand Pacific Health Organisation at Malua Bay.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with Mr Raj Gupta, proprietor, Malua Bay Pharmacy. They then continued to meet with staff from other local businesses at Malua Bay.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Jesse White, Brigade Captain, met with members and volunteers of the Broulee Fire Brigade.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley returned to Admiralty House, Sydney.
