On Sunday 4 June 2023, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) sent a letter of condolence on behalf of the Government and people of Australia to Her Excellency the Honourable Droupadi Murmu, President, Republic of India, following the train crash in India.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Sydney, New South Wales, to Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.
